Engine choice

I have a 5 H.P. Briggs/Stratton and a 5 H.P. Tecumseh both in good shape. What would be the best choice for my Simplex?

Hello Butch and Welcome to the forum family .  I suppose either engine will work . I have a preferance to Briggs myself . If going that route I would look for an engine with at least a ball bearing on the PTO side of the crankshaft but thats just my opinion. Lots of folks are using the Honda or Honda clone chinese engine . You can find more info on this subject here on the forum .

Thanks: I was leaning toward the Briggs since I just put new electrics on it.  I saw one olive drab green one that had an old Gravely? Engine on it. Looked really nice.

It is a gravely. I posted some pics of it on here. It might be smart to let your choice of motor hinge on whether it has a lighting coil or not.  Even though they aren't for me I would say the hot ticket is the gc clone.  Right guys?

I think that was 2013 show so look for Portland 2013.

GX clone.  For the simple reason that a conversion kit is available. 

If you want to fabricate everything, I would go Honda GC, as it looks much better when done right.

Thanks  kartjockey . I found them . It piqued my interest as I worked in a Gravely shop for several yrs. A lot of work to put that together .

I bought a predator motor at harbor freight today. Now all I need is the conversion kit from Wayne. I rode Waynes conversion at Portland, and was really impressed.

Btw....what do I need to do to get lights with this motor, never even thought about them til I read the earlier post ??? :-\
