Hub Conversion to sealed bearings
« on: August 19, 2017, 08:55:52 AM »
I wanted to use sealed bearings on my secret project, so this is how I am converting them.

The front, I skinned the spoke flanges off the old hub. I then turned a piece of 1 1/2" DOM tube to size and pressed the flanges back on.  The tube is .118" walled, which leave an id of 1.124".  This is perfect for a press fit 1 1/8" of flanged bearing. I put a spacer tube between the bearings for support.

On the rear., I turned the inside of the hubs to 1.25" and made inserts to adapt to the 1.125" bearings. The insets are flanged to account for the lack of nuts on the original.

These bearings use 1/2" axles, btw.

This is hint #2 as to what I'm building! Fell free to guess.
