Projects
« on: March 16, 2014, 07:20:55 AM »
Who has an ongoing project? Who has a planned project?   If so, post some pictures and an update.  For all the members that haven't made a post, show us what you have going on.

After I finish the Sportsman I have going now, I will turn my attention to a mid 1940's frame that I have for a Honda GC190 powered bike.

Here is what that will start with.  Check out the front end.  Someone cut it apart and spread the front forks.  Why?  I haven't the slightest idea.

Necessity is the mother of invention....he probably only had a wide tire to use (maybe one from a wheelbarrow?) so the forks had to be modified.

If I could find a good deal on an odd ball brand scooter, I might take on another bike project, but I think I've got all the Simplex's I need.  (again, unless a real deal falls in my lap).  As it is I've got some Studebakers that are waiting on me to finish.

Not quite a restoration, but I'm in process of building a tribute bike down here in sunny Mexico. The real thing just isn't available...
I'm still working on it...just a few more hours.

That's a pretty fancy cad drawing you got there!!  Have you started bending any metal yet?

No bends yet, just the machined bits. I've laced the wheels up with Honda Passport brakes and have purchased the trim (seat, handlebars, etc...). Not everything is readily available here like in the States so you have to know someone, who knows someone, who has a cousin...
I'm still working on it...just a few more hours.

I just picked up another bike.   Has the original motor and exhaust that came with it so the Briggs will be pulled.  Looking forward to owning an all original bike.  Dave

Dave, send me your motor & frame number & I'll get your new bike into the registry.  It appears to be a '57 or later model (brake lite switch under the rear lower bar).

It will be making its way to me from Florida soon.  Will do when I get it.

This is my other project bike - yes I do like Simplex's  :D.   I found a front rim with brake for it and plan on adding a new Honda GS190 for power.  I found this engine at Farm and Home Supply for $199 shipped.  Rick - Very interested in how you will mount your GC190.   Dave

Dave, I have not even thought about it, but I will probably build a bolt in mount very similar to the one I used on the truck.  I will be using a torque convertor drive, as you see how smooth those are.

I have a Comet torque convertor ready to use.   Smooth and quick acceleration.

My 59 Simplex arrived yesterday from Florida.    Overall not too bad.   The engine is a 150cc which I hope to get running.    If anyone has parts missing in the pics that I need please contact me.

Thanks,

Dave

Looks good Dave!  It is nice to start a project that has most of the parts.  You shouldn't have much trouble getting the rest of the parts you need.  Are you going to go for a full restoration or just get it running?
